7 YEARS OF THE CCG STUDIO!

Over seven years ago, the CCG Studio started as a simple idea: I wanted a space where I could coach golf in a way that felt true to how I saw the game. In October 2019, that idea became a physical space. Since then, the Studio has changed shape, grown and evolved alongside the golfers who have walked through its doors. There have been lessons, fittings, club builds, conversations, frustrations, breakthroughs, and plenty of swings that didn't quite go according to plan.

Looking back, I'm reminded that the Studio was never really about creating a place where golfers could come to find the perfect swing. It was about creating a safe place to explore. To learn how we move. To understand how we practice. To pay attention to what we're experiencing. To build better skills. And ultimately, to develop a better relationship with the game.

Seven years in, I don't think the journey is any clearer than it was at the beginning. But perhaps that's the point. There is always something more to notice, explore and learn.

I'm incredibly grateful to everyone who has been part of the CCG journey over the past seven years. The golfers, friends, clients and people who have walked through the Studio have shaped it just as much as I have.

And seven years later, I'm still learning, still evolving, and still figuring out what comes next.

As CCG continues to evolve, so will The Chatter. Each issue will be a simple collection of ideas, observations and things worth exploring—something to read, something to think about, something to try, and something to explore. Along the way, I'll also share what's happening at CCG, from new blogs and coaching ideas to equipment, products and opportunities in the Studio. The intention is simple: to keep the CCG community engaged whether you've been in studio recently or not!

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT

“Wherever you are, be there totally.”
— Eckhart Tolle

It's easy to spend our time somewhere other than where we actually are.

Thinking about the last shot.
Worrying about the next one.
Comparing where we are to where we think we should be.

But wherever you are in your golf (or life) right now is the only place you can actually begin from.

What would change if you stopped trying to be somewhere else?

SOMETHING TO TRY

Pre-Round Putting

Before your next round, find three putts: one at 4 feet · 8 feet and 12 feet for example.

Rather than simply trying to make them, explore them.

Putt each distance repeatedly until you have gained a deep sense of the feel and visual of the putt. Allowing the visual of the break and the feel of the speed to be engrained in you. You aren't looking for a perfect stroke nor even making the putt. You are deepening your connection to each of these putts. Let your eyes, body and attention know the putt before you need to rely on them.

Then, when you get onto the course, notice whether you have a greater clarity in your assessment and execution with your putts.

SOMETHING TO EXPLORE

Between Shots

The next time you're playing, spend some of the time between shots looking for something you've never noticed before. Not something necessarily new. Something that's always been there that you've never noticed.

A particular tree.

The sound of the river flowing.

A building in the distance.

The way the grass changes colour.

Golf gives us a lot of time between shots.

What happens when you start paying attention to it?

SOMETHING FROM CCG

Club Assessments (75mins)— $75 for the month of October.

Not sure whether your clubs are actually working for you? Bring your current set into the CCG Studio for a club assessment. We'll look at the equipment you're currently playing, discuss what you're experiencing, and identify where adjustments may make sense. No assumptions that you need new clubs. Just a better understanding of the tools you already have.

In our latest Blog, Ben dives into how a golf club is much more than a head and shaft—length, lie, loft, shaft, grip, swing weight, and total weight all influence how it feels and performs. “Stock” is simply one configuration, not necessarily the optimal one, and effective club building comes from testing these variables against the individual golfer rather than simply selecting components from a fitting cart. The goal isn't to sell the newest club, but to build the right tools for where the golfer is now and where they want their game to go: Built, Not Bought.
